There was a burglary at
15840 Sedgewyck Circle South (Waverly Hundred) which occurred sometime
between 7:30am and 6:00pm. Point of entry was the master bedroom
slider glass. It appears at this time only jewelry was taken.
The neighbor who resides at 15830
Sedgewyck Circle South says he goes to sleep late. At 10:00am and
unknown black male 18-20 years of age, 5'07"- 5'08" in height, 130-140
pounds, thin/muscular build, clean shaven with short hair who spoke
politely, was wearing jeans and a t-shirt, was knocking hard on the
neighbors door continuously, which woke the neighbor up and went to
answer the door. The neighbor said he did not recognize the male and
did not open the door, so the neighbor asked "Who`s there?", the male
replied "I`m Martin", The neighbor then said "What do you want", the
male replied "sorry for the inconvenience". The neighbor said he
observed the male walk away across his lawn toward the victims
residence from the front door peep hole. The neighbor said he did not
think about notifying the police at the time, he thought the male was
a salesman.
Keep an extra watch throughout all of 34
Zone as its been getting hit with residential burglaries. Keep any eye
out for subjects going door to door on foot.
This has happened two
weeks in a row during the middle of the day. Call the POLICE (911) if
someone knocks on your door and asks for someone that doesn't live
there.
Here is a map
showing how close to home this is.
Burglaries within the Town of Davie neighborhoods cost residents thousands and thousands of dollars per year in loss of property alone. Most burglaries in your neighborhood are being committed by youths 18 and under. They are not skilled professionals, but they will take advantage of an easy target. Don't make it easy for them!
1. Install a deadbolt lock: Deadbolts are usually locked with a key from the outside and a thumb turn on the inside. The cylinder should be pick resistant. Lock your doors every time you leave the house, even if you're leaving for just a few minutes during the day. The most popular times for residential burglaries are weekday daylight hours. In many burglaries, there is no forcible entry--someone forgot to lock the doors. 2. Install solid doors: Outside doors should be metal or solid hardwood and at least 1 3/4 inches thick. Frames must be made of equally strong material and each door must fit its frame securely. 3. Keep garage doors closed and locked at all times: This includes all exterior doors and doors leading into the home from the garage. 4. Secure sliding doors and windows: Cut a broom handle to the length of the bottom track so that the window or door will not slide open when forced. Also, drill one hole through both casings and sliding window and insert a nail or pin. 5. Secure windows: To prevent windows from being pried open, purchase a track lock that blocks the window track and prevents the window from being opened from the outside. 6. Mark your property: Mark your valuables with an engraver. Use your driver’s license number. Marking your property serves as a deterrent to would-be burglars and it helps police in identifying and returning stolen property. Make a property identification list. Put warning stickers on doors and windows. Record all serial numbers to your valuables and keep in a safe place. 7. Purchase a burglar alarm: A home alarm system can be a very effective burglary deterrent and fit into many people's needs. Remember to test your system monthly. 8. Leave a light on: When leaving on trips, leave a light on in the bathroom. In the bedroom, attach a lamp and radio to a 24-hour electric timer set to go on at dusk and off at your bedtime. Close bedroom drapes or blinds. 9. Use proper exterior lighting: Place a light over every door. Flood lights on each corner of the house will also light up windows. 10. Work together with your neighbors: When you are going to be away, tell trusted neighbors and ask them to watch your property. Have neighbors maintain your yard. When on vacation, have someone cut grass. Shrubbery should not hide neighbors' view of windows or doors. Have someone pick up newspapers and mail. Tell neighbors to call police if they notice anything suspicious. No one can make their home a fortress, but if you make your home just a little harder to gain access, you may deter criminals who are looking for an easy target. 11. Don’t leave valuables in plain sight: When leaving your vehicle, ensure that no items of value can be seen from anyone on the outside. Items most sought after are cellphones, ipods, GPS devices, CD’s, purses, and any other electronic equipment. Secure valuables in the trunk or take them with you. Posted April 29, 2010 Please let us know if you have any news of break-ins or crimes committed after you have called the police. Email us at info@waverlyhundred.org. Let us know what time of day it occurred and any details you can provide to help us all keep a lookout for whoever is doing the crimes. If you don't get a reply from email, please try again because it will mean that we didn't get the email. All emails are responded to everyday. The police are patrolling our area so wave to them to let them know that we appreciate them watching over us. Posted April 26, 2010 There have been several break-ins in our area lately. Make sure you keep your doors locked. Keep your car doors locked and don't leave any valuables in plain site in your cars: purses, wallets, anything of value. Keep your eyes open and if you see anything unusual report it to the police. Posted April 5, 2010 There has been several acts of vandalism in the last few days, light fixtures in the front yards have been knocked down as well as mailboxes being broken in Waverly Hundred as well as Hawkes Bluff. Keep your eyes open for people who don't belong on our streets at night getting into mischief. Posted April 3, 2010 Just got word from the park rangers saying no more walking dogs in our park, people are not cleaning up after their dogs and leaving them off their leashes so there will be new signs posted stating no dogs in the park coming soon. Posted March 26, 2010 I received the house paint book color sheets from Sherwin Williams today so I will be keeping one copy of the book near the Stirling Rd. section and another one will be in the Dykes Rd section also so if you want to review it just write to us at info@waverlyhundred.org and we'll let you know how you can see it. The playground in our park on Hawkes Bluff Ave. is making a comeback. Keep looking for the new equipment that they are putting in. It is still closed to the public but it looks like they will be taking the orange fencing off soon so the children can go back in there to play. Posted March 15, 2010 3 car burglaries in our area on 3/12/10. Good chance they were all done by the same people. Make sure you keep everything in your car out of site. These guys are breaking windows once they see something of value. Posted March 3, 2010 Friday the 5th is the last day the assessment fees will be accepted without a late fee of $25 being added on. Please get them in asap if you haven't done so already. Thank you. Posted March 2, 2010 I heard from the Park Ranger today that people have been walking their dogs without a leash in the park and also not cleaning up after their dogs. It is posted at both gates that leashes are required on the dogs at all times and people have to clean up after them. If this continues to happen, dogs will no longer be allowed in the park. Please abide by the rules or this privilege will be gone. If you see these things happening, please call the park ranger at 954-275-8504. Thank you. Posted February 26, 2010 An extra watch was requested at 15640 Lancelot Ct due to a suspicious incident. Resident awoke to strange sounds outside her bedroom window. Upon opening the blinds she was face to face with an unknown person dressed in all black. She could not provide any further description. Make sure you keep your doors locked and your alarm on. Posted February 19, 2010 Automobiles have been egged this week on Hawkes Bluff Ave., a month back there were several incidents on Sedgewyck Circle. Keep your eyes open and if you see any mischievous behavior, call the police right away. Posted February 6, 2010 Just a reminder, the assessment fees are due by February 28th. Posted January 14, 2010 I just added a Lost and Found page to this website since people are mentioning items have been lost or found so if you have anything to report, please contact us at info@waverlyhundred.org. Thank you. Posted January 7, 2010 As you are sending in your assessment fees, please try to fill out your proxies and include them in your envelopes. We need to get as many as possible back to be able to use them toward voting at the homeowners' meeting. Thank you. Don't forget to check to see if your fees were received on the link on the index page if there is any question regarding it. Posted December 22, 2009 The assessment packages went out yesterday so look for them in your mail. If you DO NOT receive one, please contact us at info@waverlyhundred.org. They are due back by Feb. 28th. On the front of the index page there is a link to the list of the addresses that are received so you can check them. If you don't see your address please don't hesitate to email us. For those of you who have driven by the front entrance on Stirling you will see new landscaping starting to happen which will occur in the other landscaped areas as well. We also got a new small Royal Palm tree up front in that entranceway since the old one was being zapped by the power lines. So we will get a chance to watch it grow. Also the front wall on Stirling Rd. was painted with a lot of graffiti recently and our painter will be stopping by this week to cover it up. In January the Town of Davie will be doing some trimming of the trees in that area on Stirling to alleviate some of the privacy the graffiti artists feel when they are doing their vandalism. We are also looking into getting a security light in that area with FP&L. Outlets were put in the entranceways if anyone is interested in putting any Christmas lights up. If you do, only go around the outside of the perimeter, don't go inside where the trees are. We hope you all have a very Happy Holiday and a Happy and Healthy New Year to come! Posted November 9, 2009 We have had some complaints of vandalism in the neighborhood to people's properties and cars. The police have been notified and are on alert. Please be vigilant and keep your eyes open for any or all suspicious activities. Note the license plate of the vehicle, type and model and report it to the police. Anyone of us may be targeted, we have to watch out for each other. Posted November 7, 2009 For those of you who can't or haven't been cleaning your sidewalks, I just talked to Alex, the guy who cleaned our whole development's sidewalks last year, and he said for $15 he would clean your individual sidewalks for you, so give him a call at 786-260-9473 and he'll come out and clean your sidewalk. He also said he would charge $130 to do your roofs if you need it done. -Val Posted October 29, 2009 It was just reported that the police have arrested three teenagers who have been going around the neighborhoods vandalizing the cars. Hopefully this will now cease from happening. But you should continue to lock your cars up in your driveways. Posted September 29, 2009 During the last meeting on September 23rd, there was a lot of discussion pertaining to our park on Hawkes Bluff Ave. The Town of Davie was contacted since then and this was their response. (1) Playground: The Park at Waverly is on the list to have the equipment replaced. Currently there are 2 parks ahead of us. No timeframe was given. (2) Spraying for Bugs: The county sprays for mosquitoes, etc. However, if there are a ant or rodent problem, we can contact Public Works for resolution. (3) Park Lights: After October they will do a sweep of all parks (starting with the main one at Pine Island) for blown bulbs, etc. (4) Trees : Planting trees is a different department but from the conversations that I had, this should not be a difficult endeavor at all. (5) Volleyball Net: no problem As was mentioned in the board meeting, budget cuts are playing a big part in the delay of services. He also stated that at one time they had been looking into putting a soccer or baseball field in the big open space but somehow that project died. It was discussed that there is a possibility of having someone from the Parks department (Public Works) come to our board meeting to discuss the past, present and future of the Park at Waverly.
Posted September 27, 2009 The following link is the Property Management Company that we have hired to do our code violations: Posted September 18, 2009 A car was burglarized on Hawkes Bluff Ave. last night. Someone entered the car through an unlocked door. Make sure you keep all valuables out of site and your doors locked. Even if you have an empty gym bag the crooks don't know its empty and will break your window to get it. They go car to car pulling door handles most of the time. If you see any suspicious people walking around at night call 911, you don't even have to leave your name. Posted August 26, 2009 It was brought up at the meeting that several people who are writing the board for approval for their construction projects are not enclosing a stamped self addressed envelope and that is necessary for you to get your approval letter back so please include it in your letter. Thank you. Posted August 10, 2009 The following letter will be going out to every homeowner in Waverly Hundred this coming weekend: To: Homeowners of Waverly Hundred The Homeowners’ Association is comprised of homeowners that have volunteered their time and efforts to accommodate the interest of the entire Ivanhoe Waverly Hundred Community. The duties of the association require almost daily attention and quite often are done at the detriment of board members personal and even professional agendas. The constant mandates of the board, along with the lack of additional support from the community have resulted in a consensual view to acquire external assistance. The intent of the Ivanhoe Waverly Hundred Board is to solicit the services of a Management Company to handle one of the most important and time consuming duties of the board, violations. Outsourcing this vital responsibility is an endeavor not taken lightly by the board. The overall consensus, however, was that this step was necessary and actually good for our community. The decision was ultimately based on the following advantages of having the Management Company: (1) (1) They will monitor the community on a frequent schedule (2) (2) They will adhere strictly to the Ivanhoe Waverly Hundred Bylaws in determining infractions (3) (3) They will be consistent with no exceptions (4) (4) They will be allowed to receive individual homeowners’ reports of violations (5) (5) They will ultimately answer to the board (6) Board members will have more time to focus on other areas such as maintenance, architecture, and landscaping Since this issue has already been introduced and discussed in previous board meetings, we will take time during the August 26th meeting to vote on obtaining the management company. Each homeowner of Ivanhoe Waverly Hundred should aspire to keep both their home and the community not only in a high state of maintenance but also consistent with the aesthetics of the community.

Posted August 10, 2009 The sprinkler box up front by the entrance at Stirling Rd. is finally finished, with a new top replacing the old rusty one, new hinges and side painted covering the rust. The graffiti on the wall on the east side of Stirling by the entrance was painted over this week also. If anyone sees any graffiti at all on the wall please contact us at once. The park ranger agreed to open the gate at our park on Hawkes Bluff Ave. at approximately 7:30 am for those of you who would like to get an early start in the morning. A special operation Lieutenant with the Davie Citizens Center reminds us that golf carts should not be operated on the roadway. He said the best idea would be to contact the police as soon as possible so that an officer can try and address the issue with the violator or catch them riding the golf cart. As for our park, dogs must have leashes on them when walked in the park, no exceptions, and it is mandatory to clean up after your dog. If this is not upheld, it will no longer be allowed to walk them in the park. Also, they are not allowed to be walked near the play area at all. Sidewalks must continue to be maintained by every homeowner. It was professionally done this past year because so many people neglected to keep their sidewalks pressure cleaned and the whole neighborhood suffered because of it. Please keep the sidewalks clean so we don't to have the extra expense again to have them maintained.
Posted June 4, 2009 A 16 yr old boy from West Broward High School got on a school bus that was heading for Waverly Hundred today and proceeded to beat up a 15 year old resident of Waverly Hundred on the same bus. Police were called and the boy was taken to jail. This practice of anyone being able to get on a school bus is quite alarming and hopefully not the norm. Posted May 29, 2009 Suspect In Double Shooting Found Dead2 Women Gunned Down At Gas Station
DAVIE, Fla. -- Police said a man whose body was found Friday morning in Davie is the suspect in a double fatal shooting at a Plantation gas station. According to the Plantation Police Department, the body of 30-year-old Robert J. Vaughan was found just after 3 a.m. Friday in the 5600 block of Hawks Bluff Avenue in Davie where he lived with his wife and baby. Police said Vaughan died of a gunshot wound to the head. Plantation police said Vaughan was the suspect in the fatal shootings of two women that happened about two hours before the discovery of his body. According to Plantation police spokesman Robert Reddig, at about 1 a.m., the women drove into the Chevron station on Pine Island Road and Broward Boulevard. Then, the driver of another car following their green two-door got out and fired at them multiple times, police said. After the shootings, the bullet-riddled car in which the two women were riding rolled into another vehicle owned by a couple who were buying gas. The couple did not want to comment to Local 10. One of the women died at the scene. The second was rushed to Broward General Medical Center, where she later died. Plantation police identified the victims as 27-year-old Jillian Hauck and 22-year-old Brooke Pazo, both of Plantation. Plantation police said Hauck was Vaughan's ex-girlfriend, and she had gotten a restraining order against him in 2007, Local 10's Todd Tongen reported. Hauck's family members were too grief stricken to talk about their loved one on Friday. Police said they have surveillance video that shows the shootings at the gas station, but they have not released it. Anyone with information is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477). Posted May 15, 2009 To reiterate what was written in November 26, 2008 meeting's minutes as stated by the Davie Police: Low speed vehicles such as golf carts are illegal in our area. Call the police if you see them on the streets or on the side of the roads. The only golf carts that are legal are ones that fit the following criteria: hours of operation are between the hours of sunrise to sunset; are equipped with headlights, brake lights, turn signals, and a windshield, efficient brakes, reliable steering apparatus, safe tires, a rearview mirror, and red reflectorized warning devices in both the front and rear. Noone under the age of 14 can operate a golf carton public roads or streets. Other laws pertaining to low-speed vehicles: Operated only on roads posted 35 miles per hour or less. Must be equipped with headlamps, stop lamps, turn signal lamps, taillamps, reflex reflectors, parking brakes, rearview mirrors, windshields, seat belts, and vehicle identification numbers. Must be registered and insured and operator must have in their possession a valid driver's license. In the interest of safety can be prohibited.
Posted April 24, 2009 April 22nd meeting did not take place this month, it was postponed for next month May 27th. For those of you who have not paid the assessment yet, the accounts will be forwarded to the attorney this weekend instead of last week, another week was allotted to those who have not paid yet. New playground equipment is forthcoming, no date yet, but it has been promised that it is coming soon.
Posted April 16, 2009 For those of you who have not paid the assessment yet, the accounts will be forwarded to the attorney this weekend and notices will be going out for those of you who have not paid the late fees.
Posted March 26, 2009 The late notices have been sent out this week to those who have not paid the assessment yet or sent them in late. Posted March 3, 2009 For all of you who have not paid your assessments yet that were due on February 28th, you have until March 8th to get them in before you will have a late charge. So if you haven't done so by now, try getting them in before you will be charged a late fee. Thank you. Posted February 4, 2009 Here are some photos of the before and after of the sidewalk cleaning. It sure makes a difference. If everyone keeps up with the cleaning of the sidewalks we won't have to get them professionally cleaned that often in the future.

Jewelry and more from the home.

Posted January 12, 2009 The Assessment letters are going out in the mail on January 13th. If you don't receive an envelope within a week's time, email the board at info@waverlyhundred.org. They are due February 28th. The new fixtures at the Stirling Rd. entranceway were turned on tonight for the first time. As you drive by or are taking a walk, check them out. They look great. A lot of thanks goes out to Sunset Landscape Lighting for finding them and getting them to work finally. Posted January 9, 2009 There has been over 40 incidents of identity theft in our neighborhood alone. Here are some tips to safeguard your identity: Online Brokerage Accounts: What You Can Do to Safeguard Your Money and Your Personal InformationLet's hope this never happens to you: You have a few free minutes so you decide to go online to check your brokerage account information. Your account balance is much lower than you expect - and you know that, at least for today, neither the market nor any of your securities fell in value. You see that there were several wire transfers of money from your account to an outside checking account. But you never authorized those transactions - instead, an identity thief did, and that thief has now stolen your cash as well as your personal information. Like many investors, you may enjoy some of the conveniences of an online brokerage account, like checking your brokerage account information at any time of day or night, buying and selling securities, or even transferring money between your brokerage account and another account. But if you don't take steps to protect your personal information when you go online, you could be telling your own story of identity theft. How Online Identity Theft Can HappenMany identity thieves use malicious software programs to attack vulnerable computers of online users. These software programs can monitor your computer activity and send information back to the thief's computer. Sometimes, these programs will log your key strokes, which allows identity thieves to easily obtain username and password information for any of your online accounts, including your brokerage account. Other identity thieves "phish" for your personal information. "Phishing" involves the use of fraudulent emails and copy-cat websites to trick you into revealing valuable personal information - such as your account number, your social security number, and the username and password information you use when accessing your account. Sometimes fraudsters will use phishing scams to try to get you to download keystroke logging or other malicious software programs unsuspectingly. But not all identity thieves have gone "high tech." Many still use less sophisticated ways of stealing your personal information, such as looking over your shoulder when you're typing sensitive information or searching through your trash for confidential account information. How to Protect Yourself OnlineYou'll need to protect yourself against identity thieves, whether hackers, phishers, or snoops, when you use your online brokerage account. Here are a few suggestions on ways to keep your personal information and money more secure when you go online:
Security Tip: Even if a web page starts with "https" and contains a key or closed padlock, it's still possible that it may not be secure. Some phishers, for example, make spoofed websites which appear to have padlocks. To double-check, click on the padlock icon on the status bar to see the security certificate for the site. Following the "Issued to" in the pop-up window you should see the name matching the site you think you're on. If the name differs, you are probably on a spoofed site.
Security Tip: Even though a web address in an email may look legitimate, fraudsters can mask the true destination. Rather than merely clicking on a link provided in an email, type the web address into your browser yourself (or use a bookmark you previously created).
How to Know if Your Identity Has Been StolenSometimes, it can be extraordinarily difficult to determine whether someone has stolen your identity. If you take the steps below, you may be able to find out whether you've been victim of identity theft and protect yourself from further harm:
Investor Tip: Read your brokerage account agreement carefully because many firms take the position that you are responsible for the security of your account information, such as your username, password, and account number. In addition, your brokerage account agreement may provide information about what specific steps you should take if you notice any unauthorized account activity. What to Do if You Run into TroubleAlways act quickly when you come face to face with a potential fraud, especially if you've lost money or believe your identity has been stolen.

We will be having a professional pressure cleaner cleaning the sidewalks the week of Monday, Dec. 15th. Please do not park over the sidewalk on your driveway all next week. We will be doing this twice a year but in between it would be helpful if you keep maintaining your sidewalks to keep up the clean appearance of the sidewalks for the betterment of our community. Thank you to those of you who have maintained your sidewalks and hopefully those of you who haven't been able to will with a fresh start. We also will be getting two new large light fixtures at the entrance on Stirling Rd. They are on order and will be up and working as soon as they arrive.

Posted December 10, 2008 The following are some of the issues we discussed at the last association meeting. We had a special patrol officer who spoke at the meeting and these are some of the things he informed us about: 1) In regards to parking in the street: He said legally our streets our public streets and it is legal to park in the streets as long as they do not block driveways and do not obstruct the flow of traffic. 2) Low speed vehicles such as golf carts are illegal in our area. 3) ATV's are illegal in our area. Call the police if you see them on the streets or on the side of the roads. Restrictions are as follows: no person under 16 years of age shall operate or ride the vehicle without a safety helmet and eye protection. May not be operated upon the public roads or streets or on the sides of roads or streets. 4) Identity theft: 37 cases of identity theft have been reported just in our area alone. The officer does not believe that it is from our mailboxes. It was suggested that on the internet, when the title companies put the warranty deeds of the homeowners on the internet they included the social security numbers. To check your info and to have anything removed that you don't want on the internet, go to: www.broward.org/records . He suggested investing in a monthly credit monitoring plan as a safeguard.

Posted October 17, 2008 After contacting the Public Service Commission regarding our constant 1 second power outages in our entire development, I received the following emails as well as phone calls from two different specialists at FP&L. I was told that several nurseries in our area are growing trees directly under the power lines that are touching the wires and causing our power to go out for a second here and there and FP&L is doing whatever they can to trim the trees down that are causing these problems as well as fixing anything else that needs to be fixed. He explained it in a pretty technical manner regarding the feeders and multiple feeders and drops in voltage at the substation and I took notes but I asked him to send me something that I can relay to you that will make more sense than my scribbled notes. When I receive more information I will post it here. -Val Mrs O'Connor, Eliezer Cueto Val, Posted October 17, 2008 I attended the I-75 PD&E Study - Broward MPO Presentation On October 14th and met the new project manager, Joshua Salazar and got a chance to talk to several of the FDOT workers present at the workshop. Posted October 3, 2008 Ivanhoe residence: I do not know how many of you are experiencing the constant power outages on a daily basis? Today, was another last straw for me, I called FP&L, again to lodge the complaint and was advised that they have had no complaints from Ivanhoe-Hawkes Bluff or any other community in Ivanhoe. That is very hard for me to believe, since, I know I’ve placed many calls into customer services to advise FP&L of the continual daily outages. However, they claim not to have any history of past call ins. Regretfully, I did not document my calls. I have spoken to a few neighbors who have had to replace appliances due to numerous surges and outages, and were thinking they could put a claim in with FP&L. In speaking with FP&L, if you lose a major appliance, and you have not reports these outages they will not be able to reimburse you or contribute a portion for the replacement appliance. Only if you have history in your customer records and at that point they would have to submit it for review of their executive committee. The representative had stated they will do an investigation, and will be in touch with us, however, from the calls I made in the past I never received a follow-up from FP&L. The number to report outages or intermittent outages, brown outs, etc, is 1-800-226-3545. If you are experience the same as us, it would be in your best interest to call in and report the problem. Please feel free to pass this message on to other neighbors of Ivanhoe. Thank you. Diane Marotta-Eccles

I am aware of two cases of identity theft that was perpetrated on residents of Waverly Hundred, both on Hawkes Bluff Ave. Today I went with one of the couples to the Davie police station to report the crime and to get a police case number to be able to fill out the bank forms. I am attaching the information that the police officer gave to them which are instructions of what to do if it happens to you. If this happened several times in our community it has to be someone going through the mailboxes or garbage. I told them to get a paper shredder to shred their documents. This couple are not on a computer so it has to be something that was on the outside of their home like garbage or mail. Be careful, don't put mail out the night before and try to shred your documents that have any pertinent information of them before putting them into the garbage.
